A mastery of the alchemy of colours permits her to oppose and integrate paintings onto and against an exotic variety of wood surfaces. Ceramicist, mechanic of the spiritual, and cabinet-maker. she engraves or incises her ultra-contemporary images using that most dangerous but magical brush, the chainsaw. Anne des Brugassieres, through her astonishing mastery of the artistic gesture, offers us timeless works imbued with everyday symbols, some of European, others of Aboriginal influence. Her latest works are reactionary and exude a ‘douceur de vivre’ scented with humour: The background to her paintings is essentially humanist, naturalistic and in some way a rebuttal of times lost and times to come. »

Biography

Born in Krefeld near Cologne/ Germany in 1963.

In 1986 I finished my 4 years education as ceramist creating pots and sculptures.
Afterwards I studied ceramic-design for a while and I had two sons.
I went to Berlin where I worked in music event management for two years.
In 1994 I jumped over to Bordeaux, France and I was introduced to  » creating wooden sculptures  » by a student of Joseph Beuys.
So I invented wood-carving in my personal style.
Painting on sculptured planks gives me the possibility to realize three dimensions where only two dimensions exist.
I love the expression of the group of artists  »Brücke ».
Egon Schiele is my best friend. He died too early.
Max Beckmann is my second best friend.
Käthe Kollwitz is my friend who suffered the most.
Since 2001 I am working in the Var.
Exhibitions in Monaco, Germany, Holland, Spain, Switzerland and now at the Gallery Beddington Fine Art in Bargemon 19th Apris – 28th June 2014

 

Biographie

Je suis née à Krefeld près de Cologne en 1963.
Je finis en 1986 mon apprentissage de céramiste créant pots et sculptures.
Ensuite j?étudie la céramique design et mets au monde deux fils.
Puis c?est le départ pour Berlin où je travaille dans le management de « Music Events ».
En 1996, je m?installe à Bordeaux  et je suis introduite à la sculpture sur bois par un élève de Joseph Beuys.
Ainsi j’invente ma propre sculpture sur bois!
Peindre sur des planches sculptées me donne la possibilité de réaliser trois dimensions quand seulement deux existent ?
J’adore l’expression du groupe d’artistes « Brücke ».
Egon Schiele est mon meilleur ami. Il est mort trop jeune.
Max Brenkmann est mon deuxième meilleur ami.
Käthe Kolwitz est une amie qui a souffert le plus.
Depuis 2001 je travaille dans le Var.
Expositions à Monaco, en Allemagne, Hollande, Espagne et Suisse, et maintenant à la Galerie Beddington Fine Art à Bargemon 19 avril- 28 juin 2014

Anne des BRUGASSIÈRES : « Seven Freedoms »
Sculptures and paintings of wood, sculpted, fired and pigmented

Am I free ?
Do we still possess freedom of choice ?
What risk is there in wishing to share ?
How can we contribute to moving the lines ?
Us Westerners hesitate at putting ourselves at risk,
We are exhausted, paralysed, emprisoned within society’s all too narrow and conventional structures and we measure our liberty more by what we HAVE than what we ARE.
Countering this vision of the here and now, and with a perception as sharp as it is deep, and with more than a sugaring of humour atop her sense of derision, Anne des Brugassières carves and paints her refreshing sculptures and paintings.
She composes a rousing hymn to freedom and discovers an infinite horizon barely beyond her soup plate.

Entgegen und mit dieser unfreiwillig komischen Gegenwartsvision, sägt Anne des Brugassières erheiternde Skulpturen und Bilder, sie malt eine laute „Ode an die Freiheit“ und macht uns das Leben hinter dem Tellerrand schmackhaft.

Avons-nous un choix ?
Est-il dangereux de partager ?
L’homme européen ne tente en général pas grand chose. On est crevé, fatigué, paralysé. Les conventions de la socièté nous emprisonnent et on mesure notre liberté par rapport au contenu de notre portefeuille.
Contre et avec cette vision du présent involontairement drôle Anne des BRUGASSIÈRES sculpte ses sculptures et tableaux revigorants. Elle peint et compose une « hymne à la liberté » bruyante.
Donc l’horizon infini se trouve facilement derrière le bout de son nez.

Pendant vingt ans Anne and Johannes collaborent et vivent ensemble, d’abord en Allemagne , plus récemment en France.
Tous les deux formaient l’argile dans leurs premières productions dans les années ‘80. Johannes surveillait une usine de céramique près de la frontière hollandaise, pendant qu’Anne terminait ses études en céramique à Krefeld / NRW.

Tous les deux ont étudié „’Ceramic-Design“ dans la Fachhochschule Niederrhein,mais, pendant que Johannes écoutait déjà en 1970 – 72 Joseph Beuys dans la Kunstakademie, Düsseldorf“, Anne débuta sa vie professionnelle en Music Management  à Berlin.

Sa manipulation ‘virtuoso’ de la tronçonneuse s’est raffinée pendant  vingt ans et ses sculptures et tableaux sont nés grâce à cette technique. Ils sont souvent très colorés, sont strictement figuratifs, convaincants et loin d’être prosaïques Ces fruits rudes en bois sont confrontés au feu, au brossage et à l’application du pigment pour devenir ce qu’ils sont, soit des contreparties de la vie hebdomadaire.

Johannes remplit le vide – il domine le bois, l’acier et la pierre, le bronze et le béton. Aujourd’hui noir foncé, demain coloré en triomphe. Ses sculptures sont pour la plupart fortes et verticales, le plus souvent figuratives. L’être humain s’élève – se débarrassant de la toute puissance destructive de la  nature humaine.

Anne and Johannes voyagent régulièrement en Europe. Souvent ils montent des expositions d’une durée d’une semaine en favorisant une interaction avec l’Architecture et le Design .
Toute l’année vous pouvez voir leurs œuvres à Cologne, Design Post. Des visites dans leurs ateliers sont possibles sur RDV organisés par Beddington Fine Art.

La première collaboration entre Beccer/Brugassières et Beddington Fine Art aura lieu en juillet à Seillans.

Michèle and Guy Beddington se chargeront d’une exposition nommée PROSAICNESS/touched. Sculptures en pierre, acier, bronze et en bois,  tableaux en bois  et dessins seront présentés, accompagnés acoustiquement d’une installation musicale de Johannes Beccer.

For 20 years Anne and Johannes have been working and living together, firstly in Germany, nowadays in France.

Both were shaping clay in their early productions in the eighties. Johannes supervised a ceramic factory near the Dutch frontier , while Anne finished her education as a ceramicist in Krefeld / NRW.

Both studied „’Ceramic-Design“ at the Fachhochschule Niederrhein, but while Johannes was already listening in 1970 – 72 to Joseph Beuys in the Kunstakademie, Düsseldorf“, Anne started her professional life in music management in Berlin.
Her virtuoso handling of the chainsaw has refined over 20 years and through this technique her sculptures and paintings are born. Often they are richly coloured, strictly they are figurative convincing and far from prosaic. Those rough wooden fruits are confronted by fire, brushing and pigment application to be what they are : mostly colourful counterparts of daily life.

Johannes fills up the width – he dominates Wood, Steel and Stone, Bronze and Concrete. Today deep thirsty black, tomorrow triumphantly coloured. His sculptures are mostly tight and erect, in most cases figurative. The human being becomes elevated – any destructive power of human nature is generally thwarted.

Anne and Johannes move around freely and independent in the European area. They show their work often in one-week-long events favouring an interaction with architecture and design. Throughout the year you might see their work in Cologne , Design Post. Subject to prior agreement with Beddington Fine Art visits to their ateliers are welcome.

The first collaboration of Beccer/Brugassières with Beddington Fine Art will take place in July in Seillans.
Michèle and Guy Beddington will curate the exhibiton named PROSAICNESS-touched . Sculptures of stone and steel, bronze and wood , paintings and paintings on wood will be on show, acoustically accompanied by a musical installation by Johannes Beccer.

Seit 20 Jahren arbeiten und leben Anne des Brugassières und Johannes Beccer zusammen, zunächst in Deutschland und nun in Frankreich.

Beiden gemeinsam ist das keramische Arbeiten in den 80zigern. Johannes führte ein Keramikatelier am Niederrhein, Anne machte in Nordrhein-Westfalen eine Berufsausbildung zur Töpferin.

Beide studierten an der Fachhochschule Niederrhein Keramikdesign.
Während Johannes sich schon früh mit der Bildhauerei auseinandersetzte und von 1970 bis 72 an der Kunstakademie in den Vorlesungen von Joseph Beuys saß, begann Anne‘s Berufsleben im Musikmanagement in Berlin.

Den virtuosen Umgang mit der Kettensäge erlernte sie vor 20 Jahren und bis heute ist dies die Technik durch die ihre Bilder und Skulpturen entstehen : das „Malen mit der Kettensäge“ . Die rohen Bilder und Skulpturen begegnen nach Bearbeiten durch die Säge dem Feuer, der Wurzelbürste und den Pigmenten. Zumeist sind die entstehenden Werke farbenfroh, grundsätzlich sind sie figurativ und bestechend nah am alltäglichen Leben.

Johannes bewegt sich auf breiterer Ebene. Er verarbeitet Holz, Eisen, Stein, Bronze, Beton. Heute durstig in tiefem schwarz, morgen triumphierend bunt. Seine Skulpturen sind vornehmlich streng und aufrecht, zumeist figurativ. Der dargestellte Mensch erfährt durch Johannes eine Erhöhung – die destruktiven Fähigkeiten des Menschen werden von Johannes grundsätzlich vereitelt.Anne und Johannes bewegen sich frei und unabhängig im europäischen Raum und zeigen Ihre Arbeit überall dort, wo sich Raum und Niveau bieten, gerne in Interaktion mit Archtektur und Design. Ganzjährig sind einzelne Arbeiten in der Design Post Köln zu sehen. Atelierbesuche sind nach Absprache mit den Galeristen möglich.

Ihre erste Zusammenarbeit mit Beddington Fine Art ist nun in Seillans zu sehen.
Michèle und Guy Beddington betreuen diese Ausstellung, die den Titel PROSAICNESS/touched“ trägt. Gezeigt werden Bilder, Holzbilder, Skulpturen aus Stein, Bronze, Holz und Stahl,  akustisch durch eine Musikinstallation von johannes Beccer begleitet.
