Queen in their first visit to Spain. It was one of their first tours and the band was already huge in U.K. and very well known in Spain. This casual b/w photo shoot took place in a Barcelona hotel, the day of one of their shows. Freddie Mercury, Brian May, John Deacon and Roger Taylor posed for Martin Frías in a legendary session.

David Bowie in the 70’s. The Ziggy period was over and Bowie was in a different point in his career. It was the ‘Station to Station’/’Low’/’Heroes’/’Lodger’ era. His music was less hard rock and more sophisticated, after spending some time with Iggy Pop in Germany. He reinvented himself completely. That’s something that his old friend Marc Bolan was never able to do.

When this photo shoot took place, Robert Plant has just released his album ‘Shaken ‘n’StIrred’, that was a shock for the old Zep fans. His new sound was 100 percent 80’s. Years later, he decided to start singing Zeppelin songs again at his solo shows, and he even reunited with the legendary band on three different occasions: Live Aid, Atlantic Festival and the O2 show of 2007.

Quand cette photo fut prise, Robert Plant venait juste de sortir son album « Shaken ‘n’ Stirred». Ce fut un choc pour les vieux fans de Zep ! Son nouveau son était 100% années 80. Des années plus tard il décida de recommencer à chanter des vieilles chansons Zeppellin à ses concerts en solo, et il se réunit même avec le groupe légendaire à trois occasions différentes : Live Aid, Atlantic Festival et Le O2 show de 2007.

That year, he collaborated with John Lee Hooker in his studio album “The Healer”, and the following year, Santana released his album “Spirits Dancing in the Flesh”. He was one of the greatest guitar players of the 60’s and 70’s, and a few decades later, he’s still a very popular musician with a very unique style.

Many years before the shooting of “The Osbournes” TV show, Ozzy Osbourne was known only in the rock’n roll world, but was a huge legend. After leaving Black Sabbath in 1979, he started a very successful solo career. This photo shoot took place in 1992, when he toured Spain. He just released his “No Mo Tears” album, one of hist best albums from that era.

Plusieurs années avant la photo de « The Osbournes » TV show, Ozzy Osbourne était seulement connu dans le monde du rock’n roll où il était déjà une grande légende. Après avoir quitté Black Sabbath en 1979, il commença avec beaucoup de succès une carrière solo. Cette prise de vue eut lieu en 1992, quand il fit une tournée en Espagne. Son album « No more Tears » venait de sortir, un des meilleurs albums de cette époque !

Chris Robinson in a Black Crowes photo shoot that took place in Jose Luis Martin Frias studio. It was 1999, when The Black Crowes released their ‘By Your Side’ album, a rock’n roll record that reminded of their first couple albums. After a few years jamming on stage playing long songs, they decided to capture again the Faces/Stones atmosphere. They opened on that tour for Aerosmith.

Martin FRIAS Iconic Rock Photographer 1973/2013

After forty years photographing the greatest Rock Stars celebrities, Martin FRIAS was enlisted in a worldwide tour, showing his photographic work together with his paintings.

Martin FRIAS successfully exhibited “Rock Iconic photographs “in Europe and in the USA.

His famous interview given to “CNN Española“ was shown in 126 countries all around the world and received great attention and recognition. Zoya CONOVER (Martin FRIAS Art director).

This journey started in Moscow in 2006 with a selected exhibition of the best posing and living pictures. A lot of artists have posed for his camera: Freddie Mercury (Queen), Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin), David Bowie, Mick Jagger, Nico, Lou Reed, Ozzie Osbourne, Santana, to name but a few.

And now, the show arrives in Bargemon, 83830 Var, France, sponsored by the Beddington Gallery and thanks to the close relation between Martin Frias and Michèle BEDDINGTON, gallery director, whose friendship began in the late seventies in London.

In 1973 due to the large amount of graphic material from rock stars, he decided to start the magazine Popular1 Rock Magazine, which is still being published. It’s the second magazine in longevity and the number one in the Spanish language.

Nowadays he lives between Barcelona and Miami, showing his work mainly in Europe, Russia and USA.

Martin FRIAS & Salvador DALÍ

From 1973, for four years, Martin FRIAS and Salvador DALÍ shared a beautiful friendship.

Martin was allowed to enter, whenever he wanted, into the DALÍ home. They shared a lot of anecdotes and hours talking about Rock and Art. In fact, DALÍ starred in an Alice COOPER videoclip, one of the first video clips in history.

Après quarante ans de prises de vue des plus grandes Rock Stars, Martin FRIAS a été invité à faire le tour du monde en exposant ses photographies et ses tableaux.

Ce voyage a commencé à Moscou en 2006 avec une sélection de ses portraits et de ses images prises sur scène. Parmi tous les artistes qu’il a captés, figurent Freddie Mercury (Queen), Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin), David Bowie, Mick Jagger, Nico, Lou Reed, Ozzie Osbourne, Carlos Santana.

En 2014, c’est à Bargemon, 83830 Var, qu’aura lieu cet événement, sponsorisé par Beddington Fine Art, grâce à la relation longue et précieuse tenue entre Martin FRIAS et Michèle BEDDINGTON, amitié née à la fin des années ’70 à Londres.

En 1973 vu l’envergure de l’accumulation de matériel graphique des rock stars, Martin FRIAS se décide à lancer Popular1 Rock Magazine, qui existe à ce jour, le deuxième magazine du monde en longévité et le n°1 en langue espagnole.
