Prehistoric objects chosen to serve in current usage nowadays take on  the values of works of art.
Frédéric Lange describes himself as an « archeologist of modern times », anticipating the disappearance of these aged wooden objects, which were once an architectural element, an artefact or some other object of varied origin.
The subtle memory enshrined within the heart of these « fossilised » matters is thus preserved and lives on.
The artist’s intimate sensitivity to Nature conveys to his work the essence of pure beauty of living matter in perpetual movement.
Faced with a « pirogue » (or native dugout canoe) our imagination drifts away towards an abstract visual concept where, one after the other, each composing part concentrates our attention.
The artist has captured and preserved the time-worn beauty which exudes from the exterior of his work whilst the spatial meanderings of his wood and bronze, so intimately allied, compete for the surfaces and the voids.

La mémoire subtile encore présente au sein de ces matières « fossilisées » est préservée, continuant ainsi de se jouer du temps.
L’intime sensibilité de l’artiste avec la nature donne à l’œuvre l’essence de la pure beauté de la matière vivante en perpétuel mouvement.
D’une pirogue, notre imaginaire dérive vers un concept visuel abstrait où les morceaux la composant accrochent un à un le regard.
L’artiste a figé la beauté de l’usure remplie de ses reliefs où les méandres des matières bois et bronze, intimement liées, se disputent les pleins et les vides.

Biography

Frédéric Lange’s creations transform vegetal into mineral evoking a state of fossilisation and his sculpture forms the interface between natural matter and human intelligence, interpreted through the materialisation of time.

Primitive in its representation, it is no less poetic in its translation.
Each section of wood, steeped in its own history, in its new vertical form is infused with a fresh mystique by the artist.

Its strength, equilibrium and originality are drawn from his specific technique in marrying bronze with wood.

These substances are all-important and sustain the work over and above any figurative considerations. Turn by turn his sculptures embody lightness, tension, fragility and strength.

They come alive revealing their origin through a voyage in which the conjunction of sensuality and intuition plays off the raw materials. This is how Frédéric Lange’s creations reveal their true identity.

The source material hence becomes at one and the same time witness to man’s origins and the indicator of his evolution though his creativity.
