Le cheval de Marius Gal painted by Nadia Schmidt has a very special story. It lived in in the ground floor of what is now Galerie Beddington Art Fine when Guy bought it a long time ago (he was 23 and the house a total ruin) and the horse remained there for another year. It was a horse that worked the olive groves around Bargemon. When eventually Guy needed the space to start renovating downstairs he decided he must go and tie the horse to the door of the Mairie. An adjoint of the Maire came out and said « think of your civil responsability that car next to the horse happens to be mine and he could kick it « !!! So Guy brought it back to the gallery and eventually Marius Gal its owner came back to take him to his home.
Le cheval de Marius Gal peint par Nadia Schmidt a une histoire très spéciale. Il vivait au rez-de-chaussée de ce qui est maintenant la Galerie Beddington Fine Art, quand Guy l’acheta il y a longtemps (il avait 23 ans et la maison était une ruine totale) et le cheval est resté là pendant une autre année. C’était un cheval qui travaillait dans les oliveraies autour de Bargemon. Quand Guy a finalement eu besoin de l’espace pour commencer à rénover en bas, il a décidé qu’il devait aller attacher le cheval à la porte de la mairie. Un adjoint du maire est sorti et a dit « pensez à votre responsabilité civile car la voiture à côté du cheval se trouve être la mienne et il pourrait la frapper « ! Alors Guy l’a ramené à la galerie et finalement Marius Gal, son propriétaire est revenu pour le ramener chez lui.

Born in Berlin in 1964. Lives and works in France since 2003 and since 2006 in Claviers in the Var.
Autodidact with artist mother (Inge Schmidt). Drawing since childhood. Co-foundation of a theatre in Berlin, here stage designs with installation character. Co-foundation and artistic direction of the multidisciplinary art project « Labyrinth » in Berlin, here large-scale installations and performances. Co-foundation and artistic direction of « KunstNaturLandschaft Gärten der Sinne » near Berlin, here annual symposia with outdoor in-site-installations in natural spaces. Grant for visual arts from the Ministry of Culture/ Land Brandenburg. Participation in numerous art projects and exhibitions in several European countries with extensive indoor and outdoor installations (such as Château d’Oiron, Centre d’Art Contemporain Château de Chamarande in France or EXPO 2000, Brandenburgische Kunstsammlungen in Germany or Stiftspark Lilienfeld and Skulpturenradweg Leogang in Austria…)
For some years now intensively engaged in painting and drawing, with the main source of inspiration in the surrounding nature. Solo and group shows in Germany, Belgium and France, public purchases.
Nadia Schmidt dispose avec virtuosité, de ses moyens picturaux pour transformer le jeu de lumière sur les branches, les brindilles et sur les surfaces des troncs crevassés ou dans la broussaille dense des sols forestiers en un évènement esthétique vibrant de vitalité. Avec l’interprétation picturale, les catégories de la représentation de nature illusionniste sont reléguées à l’arrière-plan et laissent place à un traitement émotionnel de l’objet perçu qui peut aller jusqu’à la déformation surréaliste. Contrairement à tout inventaire analytique, les visions présentes sont fragmentées en particules singulières qui se recomposent pour former de nouvelles mutations. Le « All over » végétal représente moins la nature, mais exprime plutôt les énergies proliférantes des états d’âmes complexes. Chargé de telle sorte psychiquement le regard dans la forêt, devient une rencontre bouleversante avec les forces irrationnelles de la constitution humaine.

Nadia Schmidt handles like a virtuoso the artistic means to create from the play of light on twigs and branches , the crannied surface of trunks or the dense undergrowth of the forest floor an aesthetic event vibrating of vitality.
With the artistic interpretation the categories of any illusionistic presentation of nature step in the background and make room to deal with what is seen emotionally, which may extend to a surreal distortion. Contrary to an analytical inventory, phenomena are isolated in fragments which combine to new mutations.
The herbal/ vegetal « All Over » illustrates less nature, but expresses the growing rampant energy of complex mental states. Such psychologically charged, the view of the woods inside becomes a dismaying encounter with the irrational forces of human frame of mind.
By the hyperrealistic kind of painting well-known forms change into spectacular organisms which claim an irritating presence.
Beside movement of lines it is light that is the essential catalyst leading to the impression of iridescent vitality.
